How to evaluate AI translation in business meetings

A meeting pilot should answer a business question: can the people involved exchange the information they need with less effort? This is an evaluation framework, not a report of customer results or a claim that meetings have already become shorter.

Choose a bounded conversation

Start with a project update or a product walkthrough using material that can be shared for testing. Define the languages, participants and meeting application. Keep a baseline so that the team can compare the experience with its current approach.

Test the difficult moments

Include a product name, an unfamiliar accent, a deadline and a correction. Ask participants to repeat the agreed action in their own language. That is more informative than asking whether the translated voice sounded convincing.

For group meetings, check who receives which language, whether speaker changes remain clear and how interruptions are handled. Two audio directions running at once do not, by themselves, demonstrate correct routing for every participant.

Measure outcomes without inventing them

Track clarification requests, missed details and time spent recovering from mistakes. Ask quieter participants whether they could contribute when they wanted to. Report the results for that sample instead of projecting an improvement percentage onto every future meeting.

Decide the next step

Agree who supports the rollout, how participants can stop translation and what happens when it is unsuitable. Expand only after the actual language pairs and workflow meet the agreed criteria.
